At its March 17 meeting the Kinston City Council approved two special-event requests and confirmed an appointment to a regional board.
Police Chief Keith Goyette presented a request for a recurring Young Professionals Kickball Tournament at Fairfield Park on April 25; organizers met insurance and safety requirements and no street closures were needed. Chief Goyette explained insurance thresholds follow NCLM guidelines; Council approved the request unanimously.
A last-minute special-event request from former Council Member Kristal Suggs — representing the North Carolina Climate Justice Collective — sought permission for a March 28 distribution of free clothing, shoes and food in a parking lot behind 327 North Queen Street (Kinston Enterprise Center). City staff confirmed all insurance requirements were met and that the city would be listed as an additional insured. Council approved the request unanimously.
Council also unanimously appointed Rickey Tah'Ron Cannon to the Neuse Regional Library Board on a motion from Council Member Hardy and second from Council Member Lipford.
Staff will finalize event permits and ensure organizers meet any remaining operational requirements.
