Scott Alston, speaking to the Kinston/Lenoir County Parks & Recreation Commission on Feb. 12, gave a staff update on programs and facilities.
Alston said the basketball season is nearly complete and noted there were six suspensions this season. He reported that spring baseball and soccer registration is ongoing and that more than 350 people have registered for soccer. Alston said the department will offer a new girls' flag football program for middle school students this spring.
Looking ahead, Alston told the commission that Day in the Park is scheduled for May 16 at Bill Fay. He added that brush has been cut on the riverbank at Pearson Park and that the greens at Bill Fay will be refurbished in May.
The report was informational; no formal actions were recorded on the items Alston presented.
