The Kinston/Lenoir County Parks & Recreation Commission on Jan. 8 approved proposed operating rules for the Mock Gym that set a minimum age of 12 for entry without an accompanying adult. Staff said the change responds to frequent unsupervised drop-offs at the facility.
Scott Alston, a Parks & Recreation staff member who presented the proposal, said there is currently no minimum age to enter the facility (the weight room already has separate age limits). Commission members moved to adopt the proposed Mock Gym rules, including the age threshold of 12 for unaccompanied youth.
The motion to approve the Mock Gym rules was moved by Lauran Tyndall, seconded by Aaron Yarus, and recorded as unanimous. No additional enforcement details or phased implementation timeline were provided in the meeting minutes.
