Kure Beach Bike/Ped Committee adds public comment period, approves outreach brochures and event plans

At its Jan. 5 meeting the Kure Beach Bike/Ped Committee approved adding a three-minute public comment slot (15-minute max per meeting), authorized purchase of 50 brochures to support outreach and branding, reviewed the 2026–2027 strategic plan, and reported a committee balance of about $5,800.
The Kure Beach Bike/Ped Committee met Jan. 5, 2026, and approved several procedural and outreach items ahead of a busy spring calendar.
Chair Eileen Clute called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. and led the committee through routine approvals, including an amended agenda that added a Carolina Beach Bike Bus item and amended minutes from Nov. 10, 2025. The committee’s mission statement was read.
Steve Corcoran reported the committee’s account balance is approximately $5,800 and said the budget report is available on the committee Google Drive. Candy Ashton-Forrester presented the committee’s 2026–2027 Strategic Plan; members discussed and made updates to the draft.
Greg Germain moved, and John Pride seconded, to add a public comment period to future agendas. Under the adopted rule each speaker will be limited to three minutes and the total public comment time at any meeting will be capped at 15 minutes. The motion passed.
Trent Taylor showed a proposed committee logo and a new trifold brochure designed to promote committee activities. Ryland Fox moved, seconded by John Pride, to purchase 50 brochures to support outreach; the motion carried.
The committee also reviewed event plans: a Community Center open house is scheduled for Jan. 13, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m., during which the committee will give away a 'Be Safe, Be Seen' shirt; the Carolina Beach Elementary Bike Bus program will begin in March and members will be invited to help; and BikeWalkNC is set for Sept. 17–19, 2026 at the Marriott Carolina Beach.
In a chair update, Clute reported that the Wilmington Metropolitan Planning Organization (WMPO) renamed its Bike Pedestrian Advisory Committee to the Active Transportation Advisory Committee and said the WMPO will be updating its Trail Etiquette Guide.
The committee set its next meeting for Feb. 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. and adjourned at 12:14 p.m.
