Mayor Benitez completed the proclamation and formally stated, "I, Selena Benitez, mayor of the city of Mount Rainier, do hereby proclaim February as Black History Month in the city of Mount Rainier every year from today on." The proclamation also directs that the Pan-African flag be displayed at City Hall during February and urges residents to participate in local events.
Council members and staff highlighted related events: Valerie noted Gateway CDC’s Black History Month program at the Gateway Media Arts Lab on Feb. 20 and the mayor mentioned a Black History Month showcase planned Feb. 27 in partnership with local schools. The mayor encouraged residents to check the city calendar for details and thanked staff for coordinating events.
