Youth Council approves strategic-plan edits, assigns leads and finalizes communications timeline

At its July 10 meeting the Cape Coral Youth Council voted to apply suggested edits to its strategic plan and assigned members to carry out specific responsibilities through the year.

Advisor Hayden recommended broadening outreach beyond student-government groups to local organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis and Rotary for awareness and fundraising. After discussion, members agreed to keep strategic-plan language high-level and to add opportunities such as social-media outreach and conference fundraising.

The council approved motions assigning ownership for plan elements: Chair Brown will track engagement at Florida League of Cities events; Vice Chair Habash will monitor member attendance to meet a 75% threshold; Member Jaquez will continue to oversee the Lovelocks project; and Member Cruz was assigned to lead external messaging efforts. A small team (Boyce, Jack Weis and Salimi) was appointed to collect citizens input through school visits.

The council also approved the communications-director application process and timeline. The body agreed to open the application on August 18 with a closing date in mid-September; members asked for clarifying edits to the flyer (make clear the opening is for the communications-director role and add a responsibilities section). The council held a roll-call vote to appoint a backup communications director: Member Jacks was elected 10—— over Vargas and will serve while the council recruits a permanent communications director.

Members were reminded to submit edits and draft materials to Miss Griglin by August 7 so new assignments and edits can be uploaded as backup prior to the August meeting. The council will revisit progress on these edits and assignments at the August 14 meeting.
