Hampton Falls schedules public hearing on donated SCBA fill station after training burn became a two‑alarm fire

Fire Chief Bobby Hudson told the Board of Selectmen on April 15 that the Firemen’s Association will pay to install and maintain (three years) a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) fill station for the Hampton Falls Fire Department, at a total cost just over $63,000. The Board voted unanimously to hold a public hearing to accept the donation.
Hudson said the department currently depends on a mobile trailer or transport to nearby Hampton to refill SCBAs. He also reported that a forestry training burn requested by a property owner at 129 Drinkwater Road turned into a two‑alarm firefight after winds shifted around 11 a.m. Thirteen towns coordinated response and the fire was contained in about an hour; Hudson said there was damage to property but no structural damage and no injuries.
The hearing to accept the SCBA fill‑station donation was scheduled by vote of the Selectmen. The Board’s action will allow formal public notice and acceptance of the Firemen’s Association contribution before any work or purchase proceeds. Chief Hudson outlined the operational benefit of a local fill station during multi‑jurisdictional responses and training events.
