Wolfeboro hires MRI to run town manager search; board shortens meetings and adopts pledge

The Wolfeboro Select Board voted April 15 to retain Municipal Resources, Inc. (MRI) of Meredith, N.H., to conduct a search for a new town manager and named Barry Muccio interim town manager effective April 13, 2026.
Chair Paul O’Brien announced that MRI President Alan Gould will lead the search and that the board expects the process to take about 90 to 120 days. O’Brien said the MRI contract, the town manager position description and related documents will be posted on the town website and that applicants should contact Alan Gould as listed in the contract.
The board also approved a motion from Select Board member Linda Murray to change regular meeting start times to 6:00 p.m., impose a hard stop at 9:00 p.m., and continue unfinished business the following Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. The motion passed on a roll-call vote of 5–0. Mrs. Murray said the change is intended to limit overly lengthy meetings and improve decision-making.
Separately, a motion by Select Board member John Thurston to have members introduce themselves at each meeting failed 2–3. Thurston’s proposal to recite the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of meetings, which he described as optional for those who wish to participate, passed unanimously and the pledge was recited by attendees who chose to do so.
The board asked that the manager search be kept “at arm’s length” from Select Board members and staff; O’Brien asked people not to contact board members or staff about candidates. All search-related materials will be posted publicly, the board said.
Next procedural steps: the MRI contract and application details will be posted immediately to the town website; Barry Muccio will serve as interim town manager during the recruitment process.
