Wolfeboro accepts $8,870 donation for engineering estimate on Pleasant Valley Schoolhouse

The Wolfeboro Select Board accepted unanticipated funds from the Wolfeboro Historical Society to complete an engineering assessment of the Pleasant Valley Schoolhouse.
Jean Denoux (speaker 20) presented the building’s history and explained that Turner Group (formerly the company used in a 2017 review) provided an estimate; the historical society secured grants and will donate $8,870 to pay an engineering contractor to fill omitted scopes in the earlier proposal so the town can produce a complete estimate. Denoux said the incomplete 2025 proposal suggested a baseline $150,000 scope for schoolhouse repairs and that final cost estimates could rise by roughly $20,000–$25,000 after a more complete review of the floor and front wall.
The board voted unanimously to accept the donation under the RSA provision cited in the public notice (amount under $10,000). Denoux said she would bring a check if the board formally accepted the funds; the engineering work will inform fundraising and a possible 2027 warrant article to fund repairs. The historical society said it would start fundraising to offset costs and reduce taxpayer burden.
No final repair contract or warrant article was adopted at the meeting; the engineering estimate funded by the donation will be completed and used to shape future funding proposals.
