Macclesfield issues boil-water advisory, schedules water-infrastructure bids

Macclesfield’s public works department reported a precautionary 24-hour boil-water advisory and outlined an upcoming water-infrastructure procurement schedule at the Feb. 10 meeting.
Public Works Director Benjamin Lassiter said the advisory followed a temporary loss of water pressure; he stressed that officials found no contamination but issued the advisory as a precaution. Lassiter said he completed his first wastewater treatment plant inspection as the town’s operator-in-responsible-charge and is awaiting the inspection report.
Lassiter also told the board that the town will advertise water-infrastructure improvement bids on Feb. 12, 2025; a pre-bid conference is scheduled for March 5 and bid packages must be returned by March 18, 2025 to be considered. He reported that NCDOT crews returned to finish sidewalk and curb backfill near the town’s accessible ramps, and that work continues to fine-tune and install speed-limit signage.
Commissioners praised staff responsiveness to recent issues and discussed removal of a hazardous tree near Brick Mill Road power lines.
The town did not take additional action beyond accepting the report; staff will share the WWTP inspection findings and manage the bidding process per schedule.
