Macclesfield board adopts personnel-policy resolution and restructures staff bonuses

The Macclesfield Board of Commissioners on Dec. 9 adopted a resolution clarifying which officials approve time off for the Town Administrator and approved changes to staff holiday pay.
Attorney Gabriel DuSablon presented a resolution reflecting earlier board discussions about the Town Administrator’s leave approvals. Commissioner Paula Lewis moved to adopt the resolution; Commissioner Jean Wooten-Jiles seconded the motion, and the board approved it with no opposition.
The personnel-resolution adoption occurred amid routine business that included financial reporting and event planning. Town Administrator Jennifer Stanley provided the finance update for November, noting interest earned of $2,682.15, expenditures of $53,408.28 and income of $88,038.27; she also reminded the board that NCCMT interest rates are declining and that quarterly reports will be available at the January meeting.
After a closed session, the board approved two related pay decisions. Commissioner Joyce Braxton moved to give staff an additional $100 Christmas bonus (to be combined with a previously awarded $100 longevity bonus for a total of $200 this year); the motion carried with no opposition. Commissioner Jason Taylor then moved to eliminate the longevity bonus going forward and to provide a $200 Christmas bonus each year instead; Commissioner Wooten-Jiles seconded and the motion carried with no opposition.
The board also agreed to provide a meal for staff and commissioners on Friday, Dec. 20, to be arranged by Mayor Michael Speight.
The board handled these personnel and compensation matters unanimously; there were no recorded dissents. The meeting adjourned at 7:07 p.m.
