Macclesfield board repeals comp-time policy and briefly holds closed session

The Town of Macclesfield Board of Commissioners on Oct. 14 voted to repeal a June 27, 2022 comp-time policy after discussion and legal advice.
Attorney Gabriel DuSablon told the board the existing comp-time arrangement could raise issues under the Fair Labor Standards Act; following that advice, Commissioner Jason Taylor moved to eliminate the policy, and Commissioner Paula Lewis seconded. The motion passed with no opposition. Attorney DuSablon recommended enacting a cap on paid time off and paying out amounts above that cap; he said he would return with revised policy language for the board to consider.
Later in the meeting, Commissioner Lewis moved that the board go into closed session; the board entered closed session at 6:38 p.m. and returned to open session at 7:04 p.m. on a motion by Commissioner Wooten-Jiles. The transcript does not record any votes or actions taken during closed session.
Commissioners instructed staff to notify the mayor or mayor pro tem in advance when overtime is anticipated and to return to the board with updated personnel policies reflecting the attorney’s recommendations.
