The Town of Macclesfield Board of Commissioners approved a resolution Aug. 19 amending the town personnel policy to reflect the responsibilities of the town administrator under North Carolina General Statute 160A-155. Commissioner Jason Taylor moved to adopt the resolution and Commissioner Jean Wooten-Jiles seconded; the board approved the measure with none opposed.
Town Administrator Jennifer Stanley presented the resolution and said it would be effective Aug. 19, 2024. The amendment was described during the open meeting after the board returned from a closed session held earlier in the evening.
After the resolution was approved, Commissioner Jason Taylor reported to Dennis Welch that, citing the town’s nepotism policy, Welch was terminated effective immediately. The minutes record Taylor’s announcement but do not record a formal vote on the termination.
Mayor Michael Speight and other commissioners approved the personnel policy resolution during the public meeting, and the board adjourned at 7:39 p.m. The minutes do not include further details on severance, appeal rights, or the town’s next steps for filling the position. According to the transcript, no additional formal action (a recorded vote on the termination) appears in the meeting record.
The town clerk will maintain the official minutes and resolution; the resolution references G.S. 160A-155 as the statutory authority for administrator responsibilities.
