Macclesfield consultant previews WWTP bid opening; town reports nitrogen violation resolved

Consultant Rich Moore of McDavid Associates updated the Macclesfield Board of Commissioners on March 10 about the town’s wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) upgrade and a recent compliance notice.
Moore said three contractors (T.A. Loving, English Construction and State Utilities) attended a pre-bid meeting last week and the bid opening is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on March 18. He told the board that if three bids are not received the town will need to restart the bid process and asked to be placed on the April meeting agenda to announce a contract award if one is selected.
Town Administrator Jennifer Stanley also informed the board that the town received a Notice of Violation (NOV) for high nitrogen levels at the WWTP. Stanley said the exceedance occurred while tertiary filters were down; staff have repaired the filters and reported that nitrogen levels are back to normal.
The board will review bids after the opening on March 18; Moore’s report signals the project is moving toward contractor selection but remains contingent on bid results and any required follow-up on compliance items.
