Lennox adopts Safe Streets for All plan to pursue federal transportation grants

The Lennox City Council voted to accept the Safe Streets for All comprehensive safety plan, a move staff said would make the city eligible for external transportation funding for projects already on the capital improvement plan.
"Accepting the plan... makes us eligible for external funding for transportation projects in the future," Nate, city staff, told the council as he presented the plan and highlighted projects already listed on the capital improvement plan. Council members asked whether state-owned highways included in the plan must also go through the state's acceptance process; staff said yes and noted that the county had already applied for funding on a related intersection project.
Council discussed potential project eligibility for federal funding and how adopting the plan could reduce borrowing pressure on local SRF loans. After questions about scope and whether a proposed highway resurfacing could be included, council moved and approved resolution 2026-07-13-02 by voice vote.
The resolution passed by voice vote; staff said further public presentations and coordination with state and county agencies are planned.
