Tioga commission approves golf simulator move, rejects community center hiring; assigns oversight and OKs dam weed control

At its July 7 meeting the Tioga City Commission approved relocating a community-center golf simulator for $10,805, declined to authorize advertising a full-time community center position, reassigned oversight of the Community Center and Planning and Zoning to the commission president, and approved up to $2,500 for weed control at the Tioga Dam; the flag pole and lighting on Highway 2 were discussed with no motion.
The Tioga City Commission addressed several administrative and program items at its July 7, 2025 meeting at Tioga City Hall.
Haley Felber, the Community Center Director, presented two relocation options for the center’s golf simulator. Commissioner Jaden Iverson moved to accept the HD Golf quote Option 1 for $10,805.00 to relocate the simulator; Commissioner Kyle Ralston seconded. The roll call recorded ayes for Ralston and Iverson, and the commission approved the purchase as recorded in the minutes.
Felber also asked to advertise a full-time community center position ahead of the expansion’s completion. Commissioner Iverson moved to approve advertising for the position and Commissioner Ralston seconded; the roll call is recorded as 'Nayes' listing Ralston and Iverson and the motion failed.
Commission President Brett Rieniets proposed supervisory portfolio adjustments for departments without a current reporting commissioner, offering to assume oversight of the Community Center and Planning and Zoning. Commissioner Jaden Iverson moved to assign those portfolios to the Commission President; Commissioner Kyle Ralston seconded. The roll call recorded ayes for Ralston and Iverson and the motion passed.
On a separate agenda item, Commissioner Kyle Ralston introduced a quote from J/A Spraying to treat leafy spurge around the Tioga Dam with a maximum expenditure of $2,500. Ralston moved to accept the J/A Lawn Spraying quote "not to exceed $2,500.00." The motion was seconded and the roll call recorded ayes for Ralston, Iverson and Commissioner Steven Dye (remote), and the quote was authorized.
Judy Odegaard told the commission the All School reunion donated funds for landscaping and a flag pole at Highway 2 and 40, reported that the flag pole is broken and that mice have chewed wiring to the lights, and asked the city to contact landowners and an electrical company to repair the lights; there was discussion but no motion on the item.
The commission approved the consent agenda, which included payroll for July 7, 2025 and a list of July bills. Notable items in the bills list included Circle Sanitation for $26,280.00, Fireside Office Products for $64,920.00, and TMC for $108,390.60. With no further business the commission adjourned at 7:46 p.m.; the next meeting is scheduled for July 21, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at Tioga City Hall.
