Tioga commission approves large community center payments, equipment purchases and other actions

The Tioga City Commission on Aug. 18 approved a series of payments and purchases tied to the city’s ongoing projects and operations, including two construction pay applications for the new Community Center and the outright purchase of a vac trailer for the Water and Sewer departments.

The commission approved Pay Application #13 for the Community Center in the amount of $234,793.93 and Pay Application #14 for $680,535.30 after a project update from David Sting of FCI, who said punch-list work is about 97% complete and boilers still require testing. Burton Youngs presented both pay requests. Each payment was approved by roll call vote with Commissioners Ralston, Iverson and Dye recorded as voting Aye.

In other procurement actions, the commission approved purchase of a used vac trailer from RDO Equipment including an arm assist for a total price of $81,445.00; Commissioner Ralston recommended buying rather than renting. The commission also approved payment to Triangle Electric for a street-light repair in the amount of $15,619.04, after Ralston said the damage resulted from a hit-and-run.

The council approved Pay Application #2 for the chip seal street project in the amount of $12,619.55. Patrick Carabello of Brosz Engineering told the commission that finishing markings — billed at about $600 — would leave the project roughly $19,000 under its budgeted amount.

The commission authorized payment of the current fire and tornado insurance premium of $37,074.00; President Brett Rieniets said the policy is already in effect and the Park Board will pursue its own coverage next term. The police chief, Josh Nelson, was authorized to submit an application to the Williams County 1% emergency-services sales-tax fund for $41,247.60 to cover new tasers, accessories and a virtual training program from Axxon Enterprise.

The meeting also approved personnel step-schedule increases for Sandra Clark and Desiree Hanson, and cleared the consent agenda, which included two sets of August bills, the Aug. 18 payroll, multiple building applications and a preliminary plat.

The meeting minutes show the approvals were unanimous among the recorded voting commissioners. No formal dissent or abstentions were recorded in the minutes. The commission adjourned at 7:42 p.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 2, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at Tioga City Hall.
