Thomasville City Council approves amended agenda, holds closed session on real estate and returns with no action

Mayor Raleigh York, Jr. called the Thomasville City Council Briefing to order on Sept. 8, 2025. Deputy City Manager Bowling asked to add a closed session for real estate matters to the agenda and Mayor York added a special proclamation item; Council Member Hunter Thrift moved to approve the agenda as amended, Council Member Lisa Shell seconded and the vote was 6–0 in favor.
Later in the meeting, Council Member JacQuez Johnson moved that the council go into closed session to discuss real estate; Council Member Scott Styers seconded and the motion passed unanimously, 6–0. After the closed session concluded, Mayor York announced that no action had been taken during the discussion.
The council also designated several items for the Sept. 15 Council meeting, including minutes from prior meetings, an NC Governor's Highway Safety Program grant resolution and DWI Task Force project ordinance on the Consent Agenda, and personnel items on the Regular Agenda (including consideration of an Economic Mobility Program Manager job description, a grade amendment and a title change from "Downtown Economic Development Director" to "Main Street Director").
The briefing ended with a motion to adjourn from Council Member JacQuez Johnson, seconded by Council Member Scott Styers; the motion passed 6–0.
