The Atlantic Beach Town Council unanimously approved an employment agreement with John Alexander O'Daniel on Jan. 30 during a special work session at the town boardroom, 125 West Fort Macon Road.
Mayor A. B. Cooper III said the council, assisted by Developmental Associates, conducted thorough interviews and decided to hire O'Daniel, adding, "Mr. O'Daniel will bring education and experience to the Town." Councilmembers voted 5-0 to adopt the meeting agenda at the start of the session.
The action approving the employment agreement was moved by Councilmember Danny Navey and seconded by Mayor Pro Tem Austin Waters; the motion carried unanimously, 5-0. The minutes note that Town Manager David Walker's final day of employment will be Friday, March 3.
The session was brief: with no further business the mayor adjourned the meeting at 11:07 a.m., and the mayor, council and O'Daniel left for a group lunch. The minutes for the meeting were later approved at the Feb. 27, 2023 council meeting.
The council did not record any votes by individual member name in the transcript; the public record in the minutes reports unanimous 5-0 tallies for both the agenda adoption and the employment-agreement approval.
