Atlantic Beach discusses townwide security cameras, PIO training and Public Safety facility items

Public safety and communications were a recurring theme during the March 20 retreat of the Atlantic Beach Town Council. Councilmembers asked staff to prioritize several safety and communications items, including townwide security cameras and public information coordination.
Councilmember Joseph Starling asked that all warranty items for the Public Safety and Administration Complex be addressed before warranty expiration, listing concerns such as fire-department bay doors, screening for the generator area and interior step cracks. The council discussed the need for sound panels and privacy curtains for the Emergency Operations Center.
Separately, in noting a recent murder in town, the council agreed it is important for consistent external communications and said Morgan should receive PIO training and be the main point of contact so "all items are reported in a consistent way." Staff also reported that pole-location issues at the Circle are being resolved and once finalized the town will be ready to order equipment for a townwide security-camera system.
Council encouraged greater police visibility at community events such as Coffee with a Cop and Citizen Academies and discussed recruiting officers to support community engagement. No formal procurement or contract awards were approved at the retreat; staff were directed to proceed with planning, obtain equipment estimates and return with scheduling and cost information.
