Thomasville City Council sets Nov. 17 hearing on rezoning for 205 and 305 E. Main Street; schedules budget amendment, Aqua Tech contract review

The Thomasville City Council on Nov. 10 approved its Nov. 17 meeting agenda as amended and scheduled a public hearing to consider rezoning 205 and 305 E. Main Street from R-6, C-4 and M-1 to O/I (Office/Institutional).
Mayor Pro Tem Payton Williams called the briefing meeting to order. City Manager Michael Brandt asked that Item 8, a closed session on personnel, be added to the Nov. 17 agenda. Council Member Scott Styers moved to approve the agenda as amended; Council Member Doug Hunt seconded and the motion passed 5 - 0. The minutes note Mayor Pro Tem Williams did not vote because she was acting as Mayor in Mayor Raleigh York Jr.'s absence.
The council placed the rezoning request (case Z25-0010, applicant/owner: City of Thomasville) for 205 & 305 E. Main Street on the Nov. 17 agenda for a public hearing. The minutes identify the two parcels as 16115000C0001 and 16119000A0001 and list the requested zoning as O/I (Office/Institutional); no public testimony or decision on the rezoning was taken at the Nov. 10 briefing.
Also set for Nov. 17 were recognitions and presentations, including a proclamation for National Small Business Saturday (Nov. 29) and an audit presentation by Jill Vang of Martin Starnes & Associates. The council placed consideration of Budget Amendment 2026-P5-01 and an Aqua Tech contract extension on the regular agenda for Nov. 17. Committee reports, the mayor's appointments, and staff reports from the city manager, city attorney and deputy city manager were also scheduled for that meeting.
Under additions and updates the council recorded "no additions or updates." Council Member Neal Grimes moved to adjourn the Nov. 10 briefing; Council Member Scott Styers seconded and the motion passed 5 - 0. The minutes were signed by Mayor Raleigh York, Jr. and attested by City Clerk Wendy S. Martin.
None of the items scheduled for Nov. 17 were decided at the Nov. 10 briefing; the rezoning, budget amendment and contract extension will be considered at the Nov. 17 council meeting.
