Selectmen tentatively approve Water/Sewer and other 2026 budgets, add $35,000 hydrant warrant article

Water/Sewer Commissioner Ben Drugg assisted with questions. The Selectmen tentatively approved the budget on a 3‑0 vote.
The Board also approved adding a warrant article to replace five fire hydrants in 2026 at a total cost of $35,000 to be raised by taxation. Selectman Richard H. Thackston moved the warrant‑article addition; Selectman TJ Chasse seconded and the motion passed 3‑0‑0.
Other tentative budget approvals included the Planning Board ($6,579) and Conservation Commission ($2,205). Kyle Smith told the Board both requests are level‑funded from 2025; the Planning Board request reallocated funds between line items without changing the bottom line. The Zoning Board of Adjustment’s 2026 request of $1,554, presented by Steve Obert, was also tentatively approved.
The tentative approvals signal the Selectmen’s support of the department requests ahead of final budget adoption and any warrant‑article vote by residents. The Water/Sewer Commission indicated an additional warrant article related to an ongoing pilot program will be forthcoming for Selectmen review.
The Selectmen conducted all budget motions by roll call or voice vote; every motion noted in this item passed unanimously, 3‑0‑0.
