The Jackson Select Board handled several administrative items on Oct. 14, including an appointment, a procedural authorization for the library, a staff insurance alert and construction updates.
Appointment and library attorney access Chair Barbara Campbell moved and the board approved the appointment of Andy Grigel as deputy health officer to support Health Officer Kevin Bennett. The board also authorized the Library Trustees to contact Town Administrator Julie Hoyt, who will forward requests to the town attorney for review of the library's updated confidentiality policy; board members discussed cost concerns but supported using the town attorney through the administrator as a control on expense.
Health insurance note Campbell warned employees that the state is seeing provider consolidation and that Medicare Advantage and other plans may change; School Care coverage will run only through the end of the calendar year. The town is soliciting three quotes for employee health insurance and currently pays 95% of the premium while employees pay 5%.
Fire station and building permits Bob Thompson reported that contractors are working to enclose the new fire station before winter and that a base coat of paving will be applied this year with a top coat planned next spring; firefighters will park by the old station. The Select Board also reviewed a list of recently approved building and driveway permits (including solar installation, new-home permits and generator and window work) for the board's information.
The meeting closed with reminders of the Oct. 18 Safety Fair at the Jackson Public Library and upcoming Select Board meetings on Oct. 21, Nov. 4 and Nov. 25. The board adjourned at 4:22 p.m.
