Thomasville ABC Board accepts police inspection report, notes slight August sales dip

Vice Chairman Don Clinard called the Thomasville ABC Board to order at 10:00 a.m. Sept. 16 at the store at 1144 Randolph Street. Secretary/Treasurer Neal Grimes and Store General Manager Leigh Ann Lowe were present; Chairman Cran Plyler and city council liaison Scott Styers were absent.
The board approved the meeting agenda and the minutes of Aug. 19, 2025 (motion by Don Clinard; second by Neal Grimes). Members also approved payrolls for the weeks ending Sept. 1 and Sept. 13, 2025, and agreed to approve recent ACH payments in lieu of individual payable checks.
Board members reviewed and accepted the Thomasville Police Department Alcohol Beverage Commission Inspection Report. The report included statistical items that had been missing in recent months; the board accepted those statistics as part of the review.
The board examined financial reports for August. Sales for August were down 4.14% compared with the prior year; statewide sales were down 4.07%. The 26-day August sales average was $19,245.07, and the 51-day (2025-to-date) average was $18,979.70. On the comparative balance sheet, checking and money market balances increased. On the comparative income statement, liquor sales were slightly down while mixed beverage sales were up; cost of sales and other expenses remained steady. No budget amendment was deemed necessary.
The inventory cycle count showed a net decrease of $24.47, noted as an offset to a similar gain the previous month. General Manager Leigh Ann Lowe reported she is still recruiting for a new part-time employee and said she has a promising candidate.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. The board scheduled its next meeting for Oct. 21, 2025.
