Roadside mowing, traffic-calming pop-up and bridge padlock prompt action; residents note burn ban and liquor-permit concerns

Road Agent Jim Langdon told the Select Board the Highway Department will perform roadside mowing this fall on Ridge Road, Eagle Mountain, Wilson Road, Tin Mone and North Hampshire and is coordinating mitigation for the last section of Town Hall Road with DES and the U.S. Forest Service. Langdon also said he met Thorn Hill Road property owners about a culvert and runoff; owners said they would consider options.

Emergency Management Director Emily Benson announced a traffic-redesign pop-up scheduled for Sept. 28–Oct. 6; staff will circulate information via the town Enews. Chief Perley removed a padlock from the new Valley Cross Road bridge and the board discussed signage options; Perley said police will monitor the bridge and recommended immediate installation of a 'no turning' sign at a problematic Route 16 driveway raised by resident Larry Garland.

During public comment, Peter Benson said the governor had issued a statewide burn ban in effect until further notice that exempts designated campgrounds; Eric Mogensen said the Alpine Cabin liquor permit is valid through March 2026 and asserted it was issued without a hearing and that provided documents contained many redactions. Chair Campbell noted the transfer station is not accepting brush at this time.

No formal votes were taken on highway projects or signage beyond the recorded removal of a padlock and instruction for police monitoring; the board asked staff to proceed with outreach for the traffic-calming event and to coordinate signage solutions with the highway department and police.
