Resident complaint over Black Mountain fireworks and park debris leads Select Board to table permit

Barbara Campbell, chair of the Town of Jackson Select Board, said the board received a complaint from resident Dean Davis about fireworks at Black Mountain on New Year’s Eve 2024 and again on May 3, 2025. Davis provided video showing cattle present during the fireworks; Campbell presented photographs of debris she said filled seven bins and expressed concern about setting off fireworks adjacent to farmland.
The matter prompted discussion about safety and site choice. Frank DiFruscio said the town needs regulations to address such situations; attendee Eric Mogensen said a fence relocation could help move celebrations farther from livestock. The board agreed to postpone action on the Black Mountain fireworks permit until member Robert Thompson is present so the full board can consider the evidence.
The Select Board took no formal action to revoke or grant the permit at the meeting; instead, it voted to table further consideration. The board noted it will return to the issue at a subsequent meeting and asked staff to include the item on a future agenda.
