Residents propose volunteer budget advisory committee to work with Select Board

A group of Kensington residents proposed forming a volunteer budget advisory committee under RSA 32 and RSA 14 to provide the Select Board with input on budget priorities and to serve as a standing conduit between community members and town officials, the group’s facilitator said.
State Rep. Susan Fochelli (Rockingham district) introduced the proposal and said she had forwarded instructions to apply for congressionally directed spending opportunities to town staff. The residents said they hope to recruit seven to nine volunteers with diverse perspectives; initial volunteers were named and the group will return to the Select Board on April 7 with a plan for organization, meeting cadence and suggested topics for research and outreach.
A board member said the Select Board looks forward to collaboration but asked that a full board be present for the next conversation to ensure an inclusive and substantive discussion. The residents emphasized a focus on transparency, accountability and facilitating public engagement in the budgeting process.
