According to the reporter’s account, police said the robber took $200 in cash, $1,500 from the store’s register, a laptop, two iPhones and multiple debit and credit cards. The owner also told the reporter he surrendered his Social Security card during the incident.
The owner, who declined to appear on camera, said this was the third time his store has been targeted since July 4 and described the pattern as worrying. He told the reporter he noticed a man loitering near the business shortly before closing; as the owner walked out, he said, the man held him at gunpoint and demanded cash and other high-value items.
The owner asked that police stage a temporary patrol at the store’s location to deter further attacks and said he did not know whether he could continue operating the business without additional protection. A customer who normally uses the station told the reporter he was shocked that someone would target a small convenience store and called the station one of the main places he uses for gas.
The reporter identified himself at the end of the segment as Jamelle Johnson of Fox 61 and filed from East Hartford.
