County GIS staff outline parcel fabric conversion, metadata updates and NextGen 911 needs

"We spend most of our time doing these top three things, which are splits, verifications, and reviewing preliminary plats," Lisa said, describing routine parcel work and the long-running task of resolving historic deed inconsistencies and "accepted out" pieces of parcels. She said the office shares data with city GIS and METSA for dispatch and that recent work includes converting map viewers and underlying data to a newer Esri format to improve stability.
Lisa said staff are adding metadata and disclaimers to public-facing map layers to clarify partial-data status and usage rules as more private apps and startups harvest public geographic data. "Now that AI is a thing ... AI is using a lot of that metadata to hunt for data," she said, arguing for explicit metadata and permission notes.
She described a parcel-fabric project to move from polygon-only parcel data toward a line-based fabric that would expose recorded "calls" (deed call measurements) and help users see more precise property data, and said the office is working to add attributes required by NextGen 911 and to align evac zones with neighboring jurisdictions.
Why it matters: improved parcel geometry, clearer metadata, and NextGen 911 attributes affect planning, emergency response, property research and third-party reuse of county data.
What happens next: Lisa said staff will continue the multi-month conversion and metadata work and will roll out parcel-fabric data when ready; commissioners asked for demonstrations and coordination with city teams.
