He characterized this as an interim improvement that will give controllers a visual traffic picture though it does not authorize ADS-B for separation.
On community programming, John promoted the Flying Frog 5K scheduled for Oct. 12 at 8 a.m., asked for volunteers and noted finishers will receive medals and the top-three finishers will get trophies. He also summarized the ambassador program, which ran with 15 ambassadors this summer and generated positive community feedback; staff and board members said ambassadors helped ease passenger flow and engage travelers.
John emphasized compliance responsibilities tied to federal grant funding (DBE, ACDBE, Title VI) and described passenger facility charges, noting the PFC rate of $4.50 and that the fee "has not been increased in 24 years." He said PFC revenues fund capital projects and asked board members to consider letters of support for federal BIL grant applications for tower repairs.
Responding to public comment earlier in the meeting, John said the airport layout plan project will include public components and that staff will publish opportunities for community input through the county website and the airport's channels when the schedule is finalized.
The board asked staff to circulate a draft animal-feeding policy recommended by a USDA wildlife hazard assessment and requested follow-up on procurement schedules and contractor notices for the hangar and runway projects.
The meeting closed after the board approved the listed grants and authorizations and heard a departure comment from the town council liaison.
