Staff outlines LMO priority amendments and flags hotel-conversion zoning for follow-up

Shay Farrar of community planning updated commissioners on ongoing code work and upcoming outreach. Farrar said the team completed a first workshop on priority amendments to the Land Management Ordinance and will schedule follow-up meetings and town council workshops to continue the review.
Farrar described an upcoming districts-focused town council workshop that will review theme, character and focus areas for the seven districts; the Mid Island District was approved in 2022 and work to align the LMO with district plans is ongoing.
Commissioners asked about a mentioned "hotel conversion" zoning topic and Farrar said the LMO currently allows conversions to residential and staff are exploring opportunities and examples for hotel-to-residential conversions; she said staff will provide maps, examples and requested follow-up information at a later date.
Farrar invited commissioners to future follow-ups and said the planning team will notify commissioners when related council workshops and meetings are scheduled.
Next steps: staff will return with examples, maps and additional detail on the hotel-conversion topic and the LMO priority amendments for further review.
