The Senior Advisory Commission approved the May 11 meeting minutes and elected new officers during its regular meeting. After nominations were made for chair and vice chair, the commission voted and the chair announced the motion carried. The chair said staff would confirm the absent commissioner's agreement with the vice chair nomination.
Speaker 4 nominated "Anna Servo Guditsky" for chair and Carl Lorenz for vice chair; another commissioner seconded the nomination. The recording indicates the motion carried; the meeting record shows commissioners present voted in favor and one commissioner was absent. The chair asked staff to follow up with the absent commissioner to confirm consent to serve.
Earlier in the meeting commissioners moved and seconded to approve the minutes from May 11; after asking for public comment (none on the minutes), the chair announced the minutes approved.
During reports, Community Services Manager Zach Silva told the commission the city council allocated $15,000 to the congregate nutrition program. "The city council did provide $15,000 funding to the congregate nutrition program, which will allow staff to let in 5 extra, folks to eat at the King Center and the Senior Center each day," Silva said. Silva also said the Get Around transportation program has a wait list (created in January) and that rides were reduced from eight per month to four per month beginning in July as staff evaluates options.
During the public-comment period, Katina Bliss (introduced by staff) used her three minutes to thank the parks and recreation department and the city for offering a grief group for seniors. "I lost my husband almost 2 years ago, and I've been going for quite a while now... wonderful leader, and thank you all very much," Bliss said.
The commission closed with brief announcements about upcoming senior programming and a tentative special meeting in September; the chair adjourned the session with no further action requested.
