Williston commission approves zoning tweak, ordinance readings, snow-removal contracts and a board reappointment

The Williston City Commission handled multiple routine and ordinance matters on Sept. 23, including a zoning amendment, ordinance readings, contract awards and an appointment.
Staff Planner Lisa Weidner presented Ordinance 1168 (second reading) to allow uncovered front porches and decks to span the full width of a building rather than being limited to four feet. Commissioner Victoria Siemieniewski voiced support and the ordinance passed its second reading unanimously.
During the public hearings portion the commission conducted first readings for Ordinance 1172, which would raise commissioner pay from $900 to $1,000 per month and the president/mayor pay from $1,300 to $1,500 per month, and Ordinance 1173, a housekeeping update to municipal code that reflects recent state legislative changes. Both first readings were approved 5-0.
Public Works Director Kenny Bergstrom reported bids for street snow removal; the commission awarded the street snow-removal contract to 3 Forks Services for $249,899 and the parking-lot snow-removal contract to Joe's Digging at the hourly rates proposed. Both contract awards were unanimous.
In appointments, the commission reappointed Jory Meyer to the Special Assessment Board for a six-year term ending September 2031. The meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
