Williston approves Flex PACE buydowns, trades training grant match and childcare expansion funding

Finance and Grant Coordinator Brenda Schmidt presented three Flex PACE buydown requests: Hydrostatic, LLC (buydown request not to exceed $50,000) to purchase an existing business at 605 8th Avenue East; Selid Mechanical (request not to exceed $83,000) to purchase a shop at 2211 2nd Avenue West; and Spectrum Industries Rental (request not to exceed $58,000) to purchase a business at 716 8th Street East. Commissioner Brad Bekkedahl moved approval and Commissioner Lucas Gjovig seconded; the consent was recorded by unanimous voice vote.
Schmidt also presented a Community Grant application from Williston State College–TrainND Northwest requesting $100,000 to start a trades program covering HVAC, electrical, plumbing and facilities-management training as the local match for a North Dakota Department of Commerce grant. The commission approved the application contingent on the Commerce funding being awarded; the motion passed 5-0.
Finally, the commission approved a $17,050 childcare expansion grant for Learning Adventures Childcare–Stony Creek. Schmidt said the expansion creates 40 new spaces and the facility can potentially serve up to 85 children. Commissioner James Bervig moved approval; Commissioner Gjovig seconded and the motion carried 5-0.
