Orange County Board of Education swears in four members

The Orange County Board of Education swore in four members at its organizational meeting. Aretha White, identified in the meeting as an assistant clerk in the civil division of the Orange County Superior Court, administered the oath as returning and newly elected members recited the pledge and took the oath of office.
Franklin McCune introduced the ceremony and thanked White for participating, saying the board was “honored to welcome Orange County Schools alumni, Miss Aretha White,” who administered the oaths. Will Atherton, Anne Purcell, Laurie Russell and Sarah Smiley each took the oath, pledging to support and defend the constitutions and to faithfully discharge their duties as members of the Orange County Board of Education.
After the oath, the board and audience applauded and the members completed and signed the official oath paperwork. The swearing-in preceded the board’s organizational business, including adoption of the agenda and the election of leadership for the coming year.
The board did not take additional substantive policy actions during the swearing-in portion of the meeting; signatures for the oath forms were collected and will be retained as public records as required.
