The joint Lambert and Richey school boards voted March 23 to table a planned rehiring of the girls' basketball coaching staff after new information surfaced at the meeting and several community members raised concerns.
Richey board members said the head girls' basketball (GBB) position should be opened and that others were interested in applying. Lambert trustees said they could not vote on a rehire because the new information arrived at the meeting after the policy'mandated one-week comment period had closed.
Community members offered conflicting comments. Chris Scholla said he believed some separation of players had made them feel marginalized and alleged bullying; he said he had called Rocky Nelson about concerns and had not received a response. Jenelyn Scholla expressed worry after coaches removed students' cell phones, saying she was unable to reach her daughter; Principal Kara Triplett responded that the cell-phone policy was in place and would be reviewed. Janice Klempel said she had been told derogatory comments were made to some players. By contrast, LaTrisha Mavity said she thought Rocky Nelson had done a good job and that her daughter was looking forward to playing for him.
Superintendent/AD Kara Triplett told trustees she had planned to recommend rehiring the coaching staff but, because of the new information received the day of the meeting, she was not comfortable making that recommendation without further investigation. Trustee Danielle Servais moved to table the rehiring; the motion was seconded by Trustee Sara Huft and recorded as passing with all voting Aye. The boards scheduled a follow-up meeting for 6:00 PM on March 31, 2026 in Richey for Triplett to report on the investigation and for further discussion.
