Committee asks planners to mark I‑40/Black Mountain intersection and add sidewalks, bike lanes

Committee members pressed staff to call out a specific intersection on the transportation improvement map and to add pedestrian and bicycle facilities. The committee member asked whether the request could be shown on the map as a multimodal improvement at the off‑ramp coming from Black Mountain and said the group should mark that intersection in red to draw attention.

The transportation exchange focused on a short stretch near a railroad crossing and a proposed public building: the committee member urged adding both a sidewalk and a bike lane and argued a connection to Black Mountain and the north side should be shown as a multimodal link. "Tell me while I say we want the sidewalk and and bike lane," the Committee member said. Staff agreed to add the intersection highlight and the requested multimodal notation. The committee also discussed safety on Old US 70, with members saying the old alignment is narrow and more dangerous for bicyclists and that a dotted bike connection to Black Mountain is appropriate.

What’s next: staff will update the transportation improvement map to include the requested intersection highlight and consider adding sidewalk and bike‑lane language to the relevant map legend and project list.
