Interim town manager authorized to seek temporary Town Hall space; board flags budget concerns

At the May 19 meeting the Cohasset Select Board authorized Interim Town Manager Michelle Leary to search for leasable space in town to temporarily relocate Town Hall staff during upcoming building renovations.
Leary told the Board she hopes to secure a lease by Aug. 1 to avoid relocating during the busy fall election and tax-collection period. The Board discussed potential locations, including 135 King Street, and the possibility of remote work for some staff.
Select Member Gregory Watts urged caution over costs, saying an earlier relocation could be expensive given existing budget shortfalls and that the Board should fully understand the financial implications before committing to a lease. On a motion by Select Member Paul Grady, seconded by Select Member Will Ashton, the Board voted 5-0 to authorize the town manager to find relocation space.
The authorization directs the town manager to proceed with identifying options; the Board did not vote on specific lease terms, funding sources or a selected site at this meeting. Leary’s stated August target will guide the timeline for any subsequent lease negotiations or budget requests.
