Commission adopts electronic participation policy limiting remote participation to once per year

The Commission approved an Electronic Participation Policy at its Aug. 15, 2017 meeting that allows commissioners to participate in meetings from a remote location that is not open to the public, consistent with changes to the Freedom of Information Act enacted during the 2017 General Assembly session.
Program Support Specialist Lindsay Barker told the Commission the policy is intended as a tool for commissioners to use in emergencies or for personal matters and is limited by code to one remote participation instance per calendar year for an individual. Commissioner R. Michael Amyx moved to approve the policy; Commissioner Victoria L. Hull seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The policy will be added to the Commission’s policy documents and implemented according to FOIA provisions and the Commission's adopted rules.
