Commission approves schedule to assess state and federal mandates

The Commission on Local Government unanimously approved March 14 a staff schedule to assess state and federal mandates identified for FY 2017–2018. Senior Policy Analyst Kristen Dahlman said the mandate review is required under Executive Order 58 (2007) and that staff had identified 16 mandates due for assessment and contacted responsible state agencies about timing.
"Per Executive Order 58 (2007), staff is required to coordinate an assessment of new, newly identified, or significantly altered federal and state mandates that have been in effect a minimum of two years," Dahlman said. Commissioner Victoria L. Hull moved to approve the proposed schedule; Commissioner Kimble Reynolds Jr. seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Dahlman said staff will forward the approved schedule to the Secretary of Commerce and Trade and the Governor for their action. No substantive debate was recorded during the vote. The Commission’s approval authorizes staff to proceed with arranging assessments with the identified agencies and to report back on progress.
Next steps: staff will submit the schedule to the Secretary of Commerce and Trade and the Governor and coordinate assessments with agency contacts.
