Commission backs staff's regulatory edits but asks to leave election language open

The Commission approved staff recommendations to amend its regulations following a periodic review published in the Virginia Register, but the body retained one exception regarding election language for leadership.
J. David Conmy told members that the periodic review was published in June, that the public comment period closed in July with no comments received, and that staff recommended edits including standardizing punctuation (Oxford comma), applying gender-neutral terms, clarifying election procedures for Chair and Vice-Chair, and updating language to reflect recent changes in state law.
During deliberation Commissioner R. Michael Amyx moved to accept the recommendations with one modification: to keep the election language open rather than finalize it now. Commissioner Victoria L. Hull seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Staff said it will seek fast-track review by the Office of the Attorney General, the Department of Planning and Budget, the Secretary of Commerce and Trade and the Governor, followed by a 30-day public comment period and publication in the Virginia Register of Regulations if approved.
The Commission did not receive public comment on the regulatory review and recorded no opposing votes on the motion.
