Police Chief Carlson asked the council to approve moving forward with procurement and permitting for a pre‑engineered metal building at the annex to centralize storage of North Metro SWAT equipment shared by Dunwoody, Brookhaven, Doraville and Chamblee. The facility would store vehicles, including an MRAP, tactical equipment and the anti‑vehicle barricade now kept in the department’s parking lot.
Jacob Adams, program manager with CPS, said the project was put out to bid last week; the team is accepting low bids from responsible bidders, permitting reviews are underway, and a site walk for potential contractors is planned. “We were looking to have those bids in and received by early August,” Adams told the council, and staff anticipated presenting a recommendation to council around August 24 with construction beginning by the end of the calendar year and completion tracked for March of next year.
Chief Carlson said consolidating equipment will improve readiness and relieve other agencies that have stored vehicles on their premises. He also noted the project will include required stormwater and utility upgrades as part of site work.
Next steps: Staff will evaluate bids and return to council later in August with award recommendations and anticipated procurement actions for the prefabricated metal building (PMB) and long‑lead items.
