At the July 13 meeting, the Marshalltown City Council approved several licensing motions on the agenda.
The council granted a new Class E retail alcohol license, a retail tobacco permit and a retail device permit for Iowa Smoke Shop at 306 West Madison Street after motions, seconds and roll-call votes. Staff and council clarified that a "device" permit covers equipment designed for inhaling tobacco/hemp or other plant materials (not a vapor product), and the device definition in the ordinance differs from vapor product definitions.
Separately the council approved a five-day class C retail alcohol license for Midnight Ballroom LLC for a rodeo event at the Central Iowa Fairgrounds on Aug. 8.
All motions were made, seconded and approved by roll call; councilors recorded their votes during the meeting for the official record.
