Natrona County trustees unanimously approve math, computer science, science and arts curricula

The Natrona County School District #1 Board of Trustees unanimously approved four curriculum adoptions at the July 1 meeting after the board academic steering committee recommended the materials.
Trustee Christofferson, who led the academic steering discussion, said public comment during first readings was positive and praised the staff and committee members who developed the recommendations. The board then moved and seconded individual motions to adopt: math curriculum; computer science for grades 6–12; science curriculum; and fine and performing arts curriculum. Each motion passed by unanimous hand‑raise vote.
Trustees raised a few concerns during review: Trustee Schmidt said she worried elementary math materials lacked sufficient 'spiraling' to support mastery and asked teachers to consider additional spiraling as the curricula are implemented. Trustee Hopkins and others said state standards can be broad and that staff have worked diligently to interpret them for local needs.
Trustee Christofferson said the curricula are available on the district website and thanked the many staff members involved. There was no recorded formal amendment to any curriculum at the meeting; the adoptions were approved as recommended by the academic steering committee.
