Adair County supervisors redesignate official newspapers and raise property deductible to $10,000

Supervisor Wedemeyer moved to redesignate the county's official papers to The Adair County Free Press and The News Observer after the Adair News announced a merger with the Fontanelle Observer; Supervisor Nathan Baier seconded the motion and it was approved unanimously. The minutes record the paper merger as the reason for the change in official newspaper designation.
The board also approved raising the county property deductible from $1,000 to $10,000 under the ICAP insurance renewal, a change recorded in the minutes as saving about $7,144 for the year. Supervisor Baier moved the deductible increase; Supervisor Wedemeyer seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. The board subsequently authorized signing the FY27 Insurance Proxy and Acknowledgement Page (moved by Baier; seconded by Hoadley).
In routine business, the board approved the agenda as posted (moved by Hoadley; seconded by Christoffersen) and approved minutes from May 27, 2026 (moved by Wedemeyer; seconded by Christoffersen). The minutes also record approval of claims identified as "AUXIANT HRA INS TRUST CLAIMS" and "ADAIR COUNTY INSURANCE TRUST," with a grand total of $5,178.01.
Sheriff Jeff Vandewater and County Engineer Nick Kauffman were recorded as entering the meeting at 9:10 a.m. and 9:12 a.m., respectively. The meeting adjourned at 9:16 a.m. following a motion to adjourn moved by Hoadley and seconded by Christoffersen.
