Students, staff highlight summer Performing Arts Workshop and thank education foundation

Performing Arts Workshop leaders and two student participants described the summer musical program that provides fine-arts credit and leadership opportunities; staff credited the Vigo County Education Foundation and grant support for sustaining the program.
Representatives of the district's Performing Arts Workshop updated the board on the summer musical program, which offers students a fine-arts credit and multiple participation tracks including pit orchestra, tech crew and onstage roles.
Britney Perez (speaker 5) said the program reaches students who might otherwise not find a place in extracurricular arts and thanked the Vigo County Education Foundation and donors for support. Brian Ingram (speaker 6), the program music director for 13 years, described seeing students progress from middle school through high school, and said the program enrolled 56 students this year across all roles.
Two student participants, Lexi Craycraft (speaker 8) and William Craycraft (speaker 9), described their experiences in the pit band and with peers from other schools. Board members thanked presenters and parents in attendance.
Administration noted that the state of Indiana does not reimburse the class for credit or funding, and that grant support makes the program possible. The board offered congratulations to the program leaders and to a recently announced principal appointment elsewhere in the corporation.
