Council keeps $80,000 engineering line for planned monument; staff reports $24,000 spent so far

The meeting resumed with a budget discussion in which the chair said the town’s engineer should produce concept plans, design specifications and bidding plans for a planned monument within the year. "we want to have the engineer do the concept plans for the monument, design spec, and bridal plans for the concrete and the steps within this year," the Chair said.
The council discussed the engineering line item and decided to keep the figure at $80,000. The Chair noted that last year the council budgeted $80,000 for engineering and used $63,000 of that allocation. Staff clarified current-year spending: "So far, we've spent 24,000 this year for 2 months," a Staff member reported, prompting council members to conclude that maintaining the $80,000 line is appropriate for planned work.
Council members also flagged other project-related expenses and pending applications that could affect the general fund. A Staff member and the Chair noted some initial funds set aside for a separate matter remain unspent and that an application tied to Lebanon Lakes is pending and expected to change budget pressures.
The council did not take a roll-call vote on the engineering line but indicated consensus to keep the $80,000 allocation for now. Members agreed to discuss any adjustment to Tom’s budget line when Tom is present at a future committee meeting.
