Urbandale reports 3,104 registered students so far; resource fair set for Aug. 6

Stephanie Davis, the district’s director of student services, told the board the district had 3,104 students registered as of mid‑July and noted steady weekly registrations. Kindergarten registration stood at 181 so far compared with roughly 200 at the same point last year; Davis reminded parents kindergarten open enrollment remains open through Sept. 1.

Davis described outreach efforts to simplify registration, including a redesigned single registration form, preregistration in multiple languages, interpreters at events, and several summer registration help sessions. She said the district saw about 90–100 families register each week and that some families still need to complete final confirmation steps in PowerSchool.

Davis encouraged community members to come to the resource fair at Urbandale High School on Aug. 6 (9–11 a.m. and 3–6 p.m.) where families can register in person, get fee‑waiver help and pick up grade‑appropriate school supplies. "If anyone needs help with registration, they're certainly welcome to come to that event or make an appointment here at the Administration Office," Davis said.

In response to a board member question, staff said the certified enrollment numbers that arrive in October will determine budgeting moves; the superintendent and cabinet plan to return with updated budget conversations after certified counts are available.

Board members pressed on the senior class size (staff reported 313 seniors) and the implications of recent declines in some cohorts; staff said they will continue outreach to confirm registrations and report back with certified counts and follow‑up budget planning.
