Wabash City board approves trail-extension agreement, multiple special-event permits

The Wabash City Board of Public Works and Safety on July 13 approved minutes and claims and cleared a set of routine but city-impacting items including a previously tabled trail extension agreement and several special-event street-closure permits.
Chair called the meeting to order and moved to approve the June 22 minutes; the motion was seconded and the board voted in favor. The board then approved claims as submitted.
Under old business the board revisited the Wabash Trail extension agreement with DLZ. The Chair said the city had requested two changes to the agreement and that DLZ had provided a revised version addressing those changes; the board moved to remove the item from the table and approved the trail-extension agreement.
The board approved several special-event applications: the Park of Wabash annual dinner, scheduled for July 21 at 595 South Miami Street; the Konkle car show at the Honeywell Center on Aug. 21–22, which included requests to close streets west of Catt Street (historically Carroll/Market Street closures were also noted); and a short downtown Canal Street closure to permit a local announcement and celebration connected to a separate arts-and-culture project (organizers briefed the board during the meeting).
In departmental reports a board member said the department’s canine officer Cliff recently retired. Through community fundraising the city purchased a new canine, paid for training and facilities, and will issue a press release naming donors once training is complete. That board member also reported a donation from an oil company for police equipment to outfit patrol vehicles.
The board set its next meeting for July 27 at 5 p.m. and adjourned.
