Residents report success of DMV pop-ups; Streetscape and multiple community events updated

Residents and committee chairs used the Nov. 1 Clifton Town Council meeting to update the council and request changes to meeting procedure.
Pat Swanson reported that Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles "pop-up" services held at Clifton Presbyterian Church in July and October — facilitated by Delegate Dan Helmer’s office — were successful and organizers plan to repeat the service every few months.
At public comment, Geri Yantis of Water Street asked the council to resume in-person meetings, saying, "people miss out on advantages that are provided by meeting in person, such as the ability to show up at the last minute and participate." Councilmember Steve Effros is recorded as disagreeing with that request; the minutes note his disagreement but do not include the reasons he offered.
Susan and Geri Yantis updated the council on the Streetscape Committee’s work: they said they now have specifics on each utility’s requested easements but that the town’s existing site plan was approved by VDOT before utility undergrounding was contemplated. The Yantis’ report said J2 Engineers needs to be engaged to revise the site plan for resubmission to VDOT; the minutes state a revised proposal is expected for consideration at the Dec. 6 council meeting.
Other community updates included a brief report on the 2022 Clifton Haunted Trail (described as successful; revenue amount not specified), a progress report on the Holiday Arts & Crafts Festival scheduled for Dec. 3 at Wayne Nickum Town Hall, a report that Clifton Day produced substantial fundraising for the Clifton Betterment Association (amount not specified), and Mayor Hollaway’s report that the Clifton Lions Club and the DEA collected 54 pounds of medications at the Drug Take Back Day. The council also reminded the public of the Fairfax County Sully Commander in the Community event on Nov. 17, 6:30–8:30 p.m.
The council did not take further action on the Streetscape item at this meeting; it expects to consider a revised proposal on Dec. 6.
